Dortmund star urges teammates to approach away games positively

Borussia Dortmund midfielder Pascal Groß believes that Borussia Dortmund must try to approach away games as they do at home matches after yet another defeat in the Bundesliga.

The Black and Yellow side were handed their sixth straight defeat away from home on Saturday afternoon as they lost 3-1 to Mainz 05.

Emre Can’s sending-off, combined with some sloppy defending and a lack of control in midfield, meant that Dortmund was outplayed by a determined Mainz side.

Much has been said and written about Borussia Dortmund’s away form and their struggles away from the Westfalenstadion. Pascal Groß shared his thoughts on the matter after the defeat to Mainz 05.

Speaking after the game, “Pascal Groß revealed every game should bettered just like the home fixtures.

“Whether away or at home, it’s the same pitch. And we always have thousands of fans with us.

“It feels like you can hear our fans louder than the home fans. We have to approach away games like home games in terms of mentality because we have the support.”

While Borussia Dortmund have struggled away from home time and again this season, they have won all seven of their matches so far at the Westfalenstadion. Regardless, four defeats in five Bundesliga matches away from home means that Nuri Sahin’s side are already ten points behind league leaders Bayern Munich.

Luckily for Borussia Dortmund, they are still very much in touch with the rest of the top teams, with fourth-placed Bayer Leverkusen only one point ahead and second-placed RB Leipzig four points ahead.

With the international break finally at the corner, it’s no doubt this will be a good time for Nuri Sahin side to reflect on these issues ahead of their next fixture if they want a positive change.
