Dortmund’s Guirassy shines in first Bundesliga win

Serhou Guirassy’s brace powered Borussia Dortmund to a commanding 3-0 victory over Union Berlin, marking their first Bundesliga win of the 2025-26 season.

After a late collapse in their opening draw against St. Pauli, Dortmund delivered a polished performance at Signal Iduna Park under Niko Kovac’s guidance.

The hosts thought they had broken the deadlock in the 32nd minute when Ramy Bensebaini headed in Yan Couto’s corner, but the goal was disallowed due to a foul on Union Berlin’s goalkeeper Frederik Ronnow by Aaron Anselmino.

Undeterred, Dortmund surged ahead just before half-time. Guirassy muscled past Leopold Querfeld to fire Couto’s precise cross into the top corner.

Two minutes before the hour mark, Guirassy struck again, linking up with Maximilian Beier in a slick one-two before delicately lifting the ball over the advancing Ronnow.

The victory was sealed nine minutes from time when substitute Felix Nmecha, just 10 minutes after coming on, rifled a fierce shot into the bottom-right corner.

Fresh off signing a two-year contract extension, Kovac orchestrated a dominant display that signals bright prospects for Dortmund.

Their attacking prowess was evident, generating 11 shots, compared to Union Berlin 12 attempts. Guirassy’s clinical finishing was the difference, with the striker extending his remarkable scoring streak to seven consecutive Bundesliga matches.

Union Berlin struggled to match Dortmund’s intensity, unable to test the hosts’ defense significantly. Kovac’s side showcased their potential to build on this result, with Guirassy emerging as the focal point of their attack.

This emphatic win sets a positive tone for Dortmund’s campaign, as they look to climb the Bundesliga table with renewed confidence.
