Newcastle United has reached an agreement with Nottingham Forest for a £55 million deal for Sweden winger Anthony Elanga.
The deal could be completed this week, with Elanga set to join the Magpies as they prepare for their return to the Champions League. Elanga, 23, had a standout season with Forest, scoring six goals and producing 11 assists in the Premier League.
Newcastle’s pursuit of Elanga underlines his impressive rise in form, with the winger exceling in key attacking metrics. Elanga ranks highly among Premier League attacking midfielders and wingers in categories such as goal-creating actions, shots-on-target percentage, and crossing output.
His ability to create chances and score goals makes him a valuable addition to Newcastle’s attacking lineup. Elanga’s signing would provide Newcastle with a dynamic and skilled winger who can play on either side or centrally.
His pace, skill, and power from wide would be a welcome addition to Eddie Howe’s team, and he would provide quality options to rotate with existing wingers Anthony Gordon, Jacob Murphy, and Harvey Barnes.
Nottingham Forest had not wanted to sell Elanga but ultimately agreed to the deal after Newcastle met their asking price. The sale would represent a significant profit for Forest, who signed Elanga from Manchester United for around £15 million in 2023.
Elanga’s departure would be a blow to Forest’s attacking lineup, but the club has shown interest in PSV’s Johan Bakayoko as a potential replacement.
The transfer would be a major coup for Newcastle, who have been tracking Elanga for over a year. The Magpies have been seeking to strengthen their attacking options ahead of the new season, and Elanga’s signing would provide a significant boost to their squad.
With Callum Hudson-Odoi potentially joining Newcastle, Elanga’s arrival could signal a departure for one of the Magpies’ existing wingers.
However, the club has emphasized that none of their top players will leave this summer, and Elanga’s signing would provide quality and depth to their attacking lineup.
