Euro 2024 set to unleash football-laden summer

About 24 hours to the start of the 2024 Euros Championships in Germany, football fans are about to be served excitement for the next two months with non-stop football across the whole World. It’s not just about the European championships; across the continents, over to South America, the Copa America competition will also take place simultaneously with the European Championship.

The football galore ends in August after the summer Olympic Games football events take the baton from the end of the two big competitions in July.

The UEFA Euros championships will take place from June 14 2024 to July 14 2024 in Germany with 24 teams, one of them being debutants, as they all try to lay their hands on the hefty price which was last won by Italy in the 2020 edition.

The Italians won that edition in 2021 in the final played on England’s home soil, beating the Three Lions on penalty. Despite their failure to qualify for the last two editions of the FIFA World Cup, the Italians have managed to qualify for the last two Euros and will want to defend their title.

England also managed to qualify and are considered a heavy favorite to win the competition. Expectedly so as Gareth Southgate is hoping to leave the English managerial position with a trophy after filling to win the FIFA World Cup despite getting to the semi-finals in 2018 and losing in the final of this same competition in the last edition after getting to the final.

Hosts Germany have not won the Euros championship in close to three decades, and they will be hoping to do it on home soil to give a befitting send-off for midfielder Toni Kroos, who would retire from football at the end of the competition.

The 2022 FIFA World Cup finalists, France, are heavy favorites amongst the neutrals to win the competition, and they are led by a hungry Kylian Mbappe, who would just make a move to Real Madrid after leaving PSG.

Meanwhile, Portugal and Cristiano Ronaldo will know better than to expect an easy way to the final if they want to reclaim the title they won in 2016. Twenty years ago, they lost the title to an un-fancied Greece national team that will serve as a source of inspiration for the dark horses like Netherlands, Croatia, and Belgium while debutants Georgia and average teams like Switzerland, Denmark, Czech, and Sweden will test their chances.
