Former Barcelona scout reveals that Jude Bellingham could have joined FC Barcelona instead of Borussia Dortmund

Recent reports from FC Barcelona scout Josep Moratalla revealed that the Catalans were close to signing Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham. The English midfielder was very close to joining Barcelona before he headed to Dortmund from Birmingham City.

Bellingham joined Dortmund in July 2020 in an initial £25 million deal that made him the most expensive ever 17-year old in club football. Since then he has grown in stature as a footballer in Dortmund. Bellingham’s excellent rise has made him a stater at Dortmund this season and he has developed consistent performance for the Bundesliga giants.

Bellingham is a unique talent who is equally adept in attack and defence. He can play in multiple positions, starting from a blocker to an attacking midfielder. His footballing mind has helped him majorly to cruise through challenges just at the age of 18.

He uses his massive frame and exceptional agility to glide through defenders at the centre of the park. Bellingham this season has three goals and nine assists in 23 Bundesliga appearances. His performances have attracted major interest from top European clubs with English giants Liverpool leading all the way.

However, recent reports that have surfaced suggest that Bellingham could be plying his trade for FC Barcelona. “We had Bellingham here before he signed in Dortmund. Now when I see that Liverpool want to pay 100 million euros, I have to laugh. I never understood why we didn’t do more of these deals,” said Josep Moratella.

The ex Barcelona scout has suggested that apart from Bellingham multiple other world-class players could have made their way to the Camp Nou. The list of World class players includes Manchester City’s Ferrand Torres, who joined the Sky Blues last summer for a €23 million deal. The Spain international is once again linked with Barcelona and may join the club next summer

“I had seen him with the Spanish national team and had written a very positive report long before Manchester City was interested in him. We could have got it for a very low price, not even seven million euros,” the ex Barcelona scout revealed.
