Former Chelsea forward Chris Sutton believes Thomas Tuchel is looking to sign a forward this summer

Chelsea finished in third position in the Premier League behind Manchester city and Liverpool. But they were nowhere close to the other two teams as they finished with 74 points, almost 20 points behind eventual champions Manchester City.

While some may feel it was a decent season for Thomas Tuchel as a Chelsea manager, some fans believe that their club can do much better to close out the gap. Next season. While Erling Haaland has joined Manchester City and will be leading the charge next season, Liverpool have also shortlisted a couple of forwards and will be looking to make their move this summer.

Similarly to bring in reinforcement Thomas Tuchel will also have to look around and find better alternatives. Their prized possession Romelu Lukaku has not fired for the Blues. So it is on the German now to pin his trust on the Belgian or look around for alternatives.

Former Chelsea forward Chris Sutton believes that Thomas Tuchel is already looking to sign players in the attack as he is not satisfied with the players in the den. Speaking to BBC Radio 5, Sutton said, “Tuchel has been really critical of the front players. I think he’ll be looking to add in those positions. You can’t deny the fact that Lukaku looks like he’s downed tools, though.”

Sutton’s comments were based on Tuchel’s constant talk about looking for more quality in attacking positions. Apart from Lukaku, the German tactician is not happy with players like Kai Havertz, Timo Werner , Christian Pulisic either. So making moves for strikers and forwards is a known fact at Stamford Bridge right now.

“There are a lot of options. The numbers we produce from our offensive players don’t allow us to overperform and we need overperformance if we want to be nearer to the top two teams,” Tuchel said about his attackers earlier in the season.

Chelsea are interested in Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski but the Blues reacted late as FC Barcelona have been strong admirers of the Polish forward and for now the Catalans are all set to bring Lewandowski home.

Tuchel will be abe to resume transfer activities once Premier League approves Todd Boehly’s takeover of the club.
