Former Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp calls out Manchester United’s appointment of Ralph Rangnick as an interim manager

Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp has called out Manchester United’s decision of signing Ralph Rangnick as an interim manager. The former English tactician feels that the right man for the interim role is at the club.

The Red Devils parted ways with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after their 4-1 defeat against Watford FC in the Premier League last week. It was a very emotional farewell for the ‘Baby Faced Assasin’ as he gave his all for the club that he loves. Michael Carrick was the next man in line to fill up the role on an interim basis. The former Manchester United midfielder took over the reins in a crucial Champions League clash against Villareal. The Red Devils came out of the match unscathed with a 2-0 win as Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho helped United reach the knockout stages of the Champions League.

Meanwhile, there were rumours of United approaching Ralph Rangnick. The reports suggested the German veteran was considered as an ‘interim manager with special decision-making powers. It was made official that once the work permit is sorted out the German tactician will be announced.

Speaking on this matter, Redknapp told The SUN, “The fact United have brought in Ralf Rangnick as an interim to replace the interim before they get the man they really want, is ridiculous. I’ve never heard anything so stupid in my life, whichever way you look at it.”

The former Tottenham manager is actually making a lot of sense but only people at Manchester United know what deal they have with the former Leipzig boss. Redknapp also spoke about Pochettino, who is United’s main target.

“If they wanted Mauricio Pochettino, as we were led to believe, then there were ways and means to make it happen now,” Redknapp added.  “And if they had to wait for him, they shouldn’t have pushed Michael aside and put someone above him for a few months. What does that say? We’ve got no faith in you?”

Carrick has already shown signs of Rangnick’s style of play as he has changed formations played with different players in his two matches at the role. he guided the Red Devila to a 1-1 draw against Premier League leaders Chelsea. Therefore Redknapp believes that Carrick has a good footballing brain and knows the club inside out. So he wanted a bigger role for the former United midfielder.
