French Ligue 1: Reactions from managers on game week 17

Game week 17 of the 2019/20 season of the French Lique has come and gone. All the managers have reacted to the outcomes of the games of their respective club sides.

With the league leaders, Paris Saint-Germain to beat Montpellier 3-1 from behind, the manager, Thomas Tuchel lauded Neymar Jr and Kylian Mbappé for winning the game for his team which takes them eight points clear from the log.

Montpellier coach Michel Der Zakarian lauded his side for giving the champions a tough time, especially in the first half, but regret not replicating the performance in the second half.

Since his return to Monaco, they have been getting good results. Leonardo Jardim commended striker, Wissam Ben Yedder, for continuing his goalscoring streak after whitewashing Amiens SC 3-0 at home.

On his part, Amiens coach Luka Elsner blamed his side for allowing Monaco gets a shot from a corner that opened the goals rain. He acknowledged that after scoring the first goal, his side could have conceded ten but was lucky it was just three, which was down to a loss of confidence.

Mbaye Niang’s brace in either half was enough to secure maximum points for Stade Rennais, which maintained its push for European place on the log against Angers SCP.

RC Strasbourg Alsace came back from a goal down to defeat Toulouse FC 4-2 to the delight of their manager, Thierry Laurey. He commended his side for making up for a bad game on Tuesday, and it was done in style, especially in the first half.

Antoine Kombouaré, however, said his team lacks was a collective will to put bodies on the line and defend, making them concede four despite scoring two against their hosts. He is frustrated, saying the players are not getting his instructions.

Nimes Olympique got the stick against classy Olympique Lyonnais, which went on rampage away from home. This could be down to playing with nine men for over 50 minutes, which the visitor took advantage of.

Bernard Blaquart noted that it was difficult after some time to play with a numerical disadvantage against a side of huge quality as Lyon. While noting that his team was not nasty being the team with the least bookings in Ligue 1, he admitted that his players are really down at the moment.

Rudi Garcia lauded his side for being disciplined away from home and played intelligently. He also stated that they played according to their game plan and didn’t fall into the trap in the clash.

Victor Osihmen continued his goalscoring form for Lille as his first-half goal was enough
to secure maximum points against Stade Brestois.

Olivier Dall’Oglio noted that it was a tough game for the host against a good side that is well organised and structured. He expressed disappointment at not taking anything away from Lille.

With ten shots on target out of 16, Christophe Galtier lauded his team’s performance. While noting that the visitors’ goalkeeper, Gautier Larsonneur was very good at keeping the scoreline to the barest minimum, the coach said. It was an important win for his team, which occupies the last Champions League spot on the table.
