Bayern falls to Monchengladbach as key players picks up Injuries

Surprise table-toppers Borussia Monchengladbach proved they are serious title contenders by displaying an electrifying performance by defeating F.C Bayern Munich 2-1 on Saturday.

Ramy Bensebaini scored both goals for ‘Gladbach by scoring a last gasp penalty. The previous time Gladbach won a title was in 1977. Ivan Perisic gave Bayern the lead from a fantastic volley Bensebaini got an equalizer before a headed corner. A last-gasp penalty was later awarded to Gladbach as Bensebaini converted from the spot-kick.

Bayern had high chances- 15 shots in the first half, but they were let down by a mix of poor finishes and excellent goalkeeping from the opposition goalkeeper Yann Sommer denied the Munich team. Robert Lewandowski had some touches flashed twice of the post. Bayern remained frustrated as they pushed on till they got their first goal in the second half from a volley by substitute Ivan Perisic. That goal sparked Gladbach to life as they got their second goal and converted a last-minute penalty.

Gladbach manager Marco Rose revealed after the win. He said, “our performance today showed why we are up there. We held our nerves upon till the 90th minute to show what we are capable of, and we got the last-minute penalty.

Hans Flick said after the game, “after we got the first goal, we lost our course and forgot how to play somehow, and we paid dearly for it.”

Bayern languishes in the seventh position in the Bundesliga table after back to back defeats for the first time in 14 months to Bayern Leverkusen and Gladbach, respectively.

They [Monchengladbach] lead the log by a point ahead of Leipzig, who beat Hoffenheim 3-1 with Timo Werner finding the net twice.

However, Bayern encountered some worries as Jerome Boateng, and Corentin Tolisso picked up an injury towards the closing stages of the game. They will be assessed ahead of the Champions League match on Wednesday.

Bayern Munich are backed at 1.49 to defeat Tottenham, while Tottenham are set at 4.21 to win Bayern.
