Graham Potter admits board’s support can’t last forever

Chelsea manager Graham Potter has admitted that he’s running out of time and trust of the Chelsea board and thus needs to turn around the result of the Stamford Bridge side.

The Blues scored just once all February, Joao Felix’s opening goal in Chelsea’s 1-1 draw at West Ham United on the 11th of February. Since then, Chelsea has lost all games, including a 1-0 loss to Borussia Dortmund in the UEFA Champions League.

The situation was compounded with a 2-0 loss to Tottenham in the Premier League on Sunday, a result that extends Chelsea’s winless run to six games. Potter revealed that despite the results, he had the support of the club’s boardroom.

While talking about his team’s form, he admitted that they need to do better while taking responsibility for the situation and staying that the support he is getting isn’t going to be forever.

“If results aren’t good enough, which they aren’t at the moment, you can’t rely on support forever that is for sure. I take full responsibility for those results and it isn’t good enough for Chelsea. We want to improve it, absolutely. My job is to keep going, to keep working with the team to try and change the moment. The players are hurting. It’s a tough moment for us.” Potter said.

Sunday’s loss to Tottenham at White Hart Lane was initiated with a long-range effort from Oliver Skipp after the break as both teams played a goalless draw in the first half.

Harry Kane’s 82nd-minute goal was enough to seal the victory for Spurs and pile more misery on Graham Potter. Chelsea’s next game will be a home tie against Leeds United on the 4th of March in the Premier League before hosting German club Borussia Dortmund and the second leg of their UEFA Champions League round of 16 tie.
