Guardiola upset by defeat in the Carabao Cup

Manchester City and their manager, Pep Guardiola, have consistently shown their ambition in the transfer market with some marquee signings such as Erling Haaland, Kevin de Bruyne, and Nathan Ake, to name but a few.

Guardiola has sought to build an all-star team that is not only highly competitive but also capable of winning trophies on both domestic and continental stages. The aim was to create an illustrious squad full of world-class players who could take the club to unprecedented levels of success. It is for this reason that it is not surprising that Guardiola is extremely upset with his team after delivering one of the worst performances in a long time.

The citizens fell to Southampton in the Carabao Cup 2-0 and were eliminated from the tournament.

Guardiola did not want to make excuses for his team’s defeat: “The best team won. They were better. We didn’t play well. We had a bad start, and we didn’t do well.”

‘Today, we were not even close to what we are. We were not prepared to play in this competition and reach the semifinals. We weren’t ready,” the City boss reflected very critically.

Jamie Redknapp, Liverpool legend and current commentator on ‘Sky Sports,’ said of Manchester City’s 2-0 defeat against Southampton, “I can’t think of a worse 45 minutes for City with Pep Guardiola. There have been so many mistakes… “.

The ‘Sky Sports analyst acknowledged that for him, the City game was “incredible, I didn’t expect this in the slightest” he stressed that “Manchester City’s first half was diabolical” and stressed that “Southampton have been magnificent.”
