“Too many players are not at their required level,” says PSG boss Christophe Galtier following their drab draw against Reims

Paris Saint Germain recently shared the spoils against Stade Reims in a home game in the Ligue 1 and irked the manager Christophe Galtier who has slammed some of the players for not being at their best. The Parisians were in good form before this game and this comes as a surprise as they played out a 1-1 draw against the 11th placed outfit in the league.

Currently PSG are at the top of the Ligue One points table but their lead have been cut down to only three points as second placed Lens have been relentless in their chase for the top spot. Coming to the match, it was a very cagey affair against Reims as both teams failed to break the deadlock in the first half. However Neymar Jr. opened the scoring six minutes into the second half but soon Marco Verratti got sent off putting PSG under a lot of pressure.

The Parisians were really good to keep hold of the lead but Folarin Balogun spoiled cold water over their hard work as he scored the equalizer deep in added time to snatch a point from the league leaders.

Galtier was not very happy with the result as she clearly stated his dissatisfaction and also cleared how the hard work on the training field was not reflected on the game day. “When you are a coach, you can’t be satisfied with these kind of results, these kinds of performances, both collective and individual. Obviously, there’ll be decisions to be made. I talk to my players every day. This week, they have worked well, all together. It was not seen on the field, especially during the first period,” Galtier told Prime Video.

The Frenchman was very honest as he was ready to take up all the responsibility coming with the draw. He also revealed that the team has gone into a comfort zone and they need to shake it off and be better for the upcoming matches. “There will be decisions to be made so that we also recreate competition. Because we’ve fallen into a comfort zone from where it is difficult to get out. We’ll have to shake ourselves off. We’ll continue to work but also to talk. I’m responsible for these poor performances but there are also individual performances,” Galtier added.

Galtier was very brave to put the blame on his players and call them out after a very average performance. He also claimed how the results have not been great since the World Cup and has made them aware that decisions will be taken ahead of the upcoming matches.

“At the moment, too many players are not at their required level. Are we letting ourselves go? Since the World Cup, we can’t be satisfied with our results. There will be decisions to be made to find a team that is much stronger and looks and plays like a top team,” Galtier concluded.

PSG will be looking to get back to winning ways as they travel to Montpellier for their next clash on 2nd February, as Galtier will surely have an eye on the big fixture against Bayern Munich coming up in the Champions League round of 16.
