Dortmund move to lock down Kobel amid Madrid link

Borussia Dortmund are determined to retain first-choice goalkeeper Gregor Kobel and are prepared to offer him a long-term contract extension to shut down any potential interest from Real Madrid.

The Swiss international has been linked with a switch to the Spanish giants, who could move for a new No. 1 if they fail to agree fresh terms with Thibaut Courtois beyond the end of the current campaign. Yet Dortmund have made their position clear.

According to reports, the Bundesliga club have no intention of selling their established starter and want to tie him down past the existing 2028 expiry of his deal.

Kobel himself appears content to remain at Signal Iduna Park. The 28-year-old is understood to be uninterested in a departure at this stage and believes Dortmund can challenge for major honors in the seasons ahead.

His commitment was already demonstrated during the summer window, when he turned down approaches from Newcastle United in favor of staying put in Germany.

Kobel arrived at Dortmund from Stuttgart in 2021 for a fee of €15 million and has since established himself as one of the most reliable goalkeepers in the Bundesliga.

His consistent performances between the posts have made him a cornerstone of the side, and the club views securing his long-term future as a priority.

While Real Madrid’s situation with Courtois will continue to generate speculation, Dortmund’s stance suggests any approach would face significant resistance.

By pushing for an extended contract, the Black and Yellows aim to protect one of their key assets and reinforce stability in a crucial position.

For now, Kobel’s focus remains on contributing to Dortmund’s ambitions rather than contemplating a high-profile move away.
