Memphis Grizzlies rookie Cameron Boozer delivered a historic performance on Thursday night, becoming the second-youngest player in NBA history to register a triple-double during his team’s commanding 124-103 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers.
At just 19 years and 103 days old, Boozer finished with 18 points, 12 rebounds and 12 assists, helping Memphis maintain its unbeaten start to the season.
The 2026 NBA Draft’s third overall pick, who is also the youngest active player in the league, achieved the remarkable milestone in only his fifth professional game.
Boozer now sits behind Josh Giddey on the NBA’s all-time list of youngest triple-double performers.
Giddey established the record on January 2, 2022, aged 19 years and 84 days, when he recorded 17 points, 13 rebounds and 14 assists for the Oklahoma City Thunder against the Dallas Mavericks.
However, Boozer has claimed a distinction of his own by becoming the youngest player ever to achieve a triple-double in an NBA victory.
The 6-foot-8, 250-pound rookie also surpassed Victor Wembanyama to become the youngest frontcourt player in league history to reach the milestone.
Wembanyama previously held that record after producing 16 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists for the San Antonio Spurs against the Detroit Pistons on January 10, 2024, when he was 20 years and six days old.
Boozer’s achievement becomes even more impressive considering how quickly he has adapted to the NBA.
Only three other players in league history had previously recorded a triple-double within their first five appearances.
The exclusive group includes Hall of Famer Oscar Robertson, who accomplished the feat with the Cincinnati Royals in 1960, Art Williams with the San Diego Rockets in 1967, and Ben Simmons with the Philadelphia 76ers in 2017.
Beyond the individual records, Boozer’s performance helped Memphis reach another significant franchise milestone.
The Grizzlies improved to 5-0, matching their best opening run in franchise history, previously achieved during the 2014-15 campaign.
Thursday’s contest also brought together two of the NBA’s final three unbeaten teams, with Portland entering the matchup without a defeat.
Following Memphis’ victory, the Houston Rockets remain the league’s only other undefeated side.
The Grizzlies will now aim to extend their winning streak when they return home to face the Sacramento Kings on Saturday night.
Sacramento enters the contest with a 0-5 record, presenting Memphis with an opportunity to continue its impressive start.
For Boozer, the record-breaking night marks an extraordinary early chapter in his NBA career, establishing him among a select group of players who made an immediate impact upon entering the league.
