Harry Kane scores as England beats Scotland 3-1

An in-form Scotland were unable to stop England as the Three Lions showed their class in a comfortable 3-0 victory over Scotland in a friendly game in Glasgow on Tuesday evening.

The two old rivals met in one of the oldest fixtures of the football game, and it was the Three Lions who had the last laugh after 90 minutes. Both sides had contrasting results from their respective Euro2024 qualifying games last week, with England held to a 1-1 draw by Ukraine in a game played in Poland while Scotland continued their impressive winning streak by beating Cyprus away from home to record 15 points from five games played.

England manager Gareth Southgate blamed the pitch at the Stadion Miejski in Poland for the result but praised his England players for how they were able to adjust to grind out the result.

Perhaps it was the better playing conditions at Hampden Park that gave England the edge as they controlled and dominated, largely untroubled by the home side, and it wasn’t a surprise when Phil Foden opened the scoring after 32 minutes while in form Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham scored his sixth goals in his last six games for club and country.

Troubled Manchester United defender Harry Maguire was introduced after forty minutes, and he got himself on the wrong side after putting the ball into his own net after good work from Scotland. However, new Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane confirmed the result with a late goal in the 81st minute to seal the win.

Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden praised Jude Bellingham, who he said was playing beyond his years.

“He’s so mature for his age, an unreal talent, a massive talent, and important for us with the way we play. We need Jude a lot, and it’s a pleasure to play with him, and we link up really well.” Foden.
