Harry Maguire Sees Red As Denmark beat England

Manchester United Defender Harry Maguire was the scapegoat as England Lost 1-0 to Denmark at the Wembley Stadium in one of the UEFA Nations League matches played on Wednesday night.

Harry Maguire, one of the two red cards received by the three lions on a miserable night, got sent off in the 34th minute of the first half.

The former Leicester City defender was caught in a late challenge on one Yussuf Poulsen and duly got his second yellow card of the game.

Moments later, the game turned worse for England as Kyle Walker committed a foul in the box, and former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Christian Eriksen put away the penalty to score the game’s only goal.

Harry Maguire has had a torrid start to the 2020/2021 season as he was arrested in Greece by the Greek police and has posted poor performances for the Red Devils.

The three Lions were out of sorts and rarely troubled the Danes, and the visitors looked more like the team more likely to score.

The result is a setback for the side that beat Belgium 2-1 last weekend, and the next step will be a visit to Belgium in the next international break and then host Iceland.

England manager Gareth Southgate was proud of the boys irrespective of the scoreline.

“I was very proud of the performance. I thought we were excellent with 11 men and causing them all sorts of problems down our right-hand side. The sending off alters everything and the penalty – it’s foul on Kyle Walker, and I don’t see the foul at all. The less said, the better.” he said.

In other matches, Belgium beat Iceland 2-1 while Portugal beat Sweden 3-0. Poland beat 10-man Bosnia and Herzegovina 3-0, and the Netherlands played out a 1-1 draw with Italy.

Wales beat Bulgaria 1-0 while Finland beat Northern Ireland by the same scoreline. World champions France beat Croatia 2-1.
