Hernandez ready to sign a new deal with Milan

AC Milan left-back Theo Hernandez is willing to extend his stay at the club as his agent met with club management on Monday morning.

According to his representative, Manuel Garcia Quilon, they ‘did not discuss a contract renewal, but the Frenchman wants to stay in San Siro and sign a new deal.

Hernandez got into the news following criticism from coach Paulo Fonseca about the squad’s attitude in the Champions League game against Crvena Zvezda midweek.

Fonseca made a tough call by leaving Hernandez on the bench for Sunday’s 0-0 Serie A draw with Genoa in favor of youth team player Alex Jimenez. This further confirms that he had been the main target of that tirade.

Speaking with the media after meeting Milan at the club headquarters, Quilon explained that his visit was not about a contract renewal but fiscal matters.

Quilon further stated that the intention is evident, which is for him to remain and sign a new deal.

As for the decision to leave him out of the starting lineup,  which is not the first time Fonseca would do so, he said the decisions are not down to the player.

“He respects his teammates, and when one player is on the field, the other inevitably isn’t. It happened with Rafael Leao, too; we must respect the coach’s decisions.”

Hernandez still has a contract with Milan that expires in June 2026. It is expected that an agreement over a new deal will be reached soon, or his sale will become inevitable to avoid losing him as a free agent as he enters the final year of his contract next summer.

According to reports, the Rossoneri are offering an increased salary to €5m per season plus bonuses, an improvement on his current €4m.

What’s left to see is if the offer will be accepted or rejected. He might also choose to wait till the summer before making a decision.
