Inter Milan knocked out of Club World Cup by Brazilians

Fluminense stunned Inter Milan with a 2-0 win, securing their spot in the quarterfinals of the FIFA Club World Cup.

German Cano’s early header in the third minute proved to be the catalyst for the Brazilian side’s victory. Cano rose well to meet a cross inside the box, powering home a precise header into the bottom of the net.

The Italian giants struggled to find their footing throughout the match, despite creating several scoring opportunities.

Lautaro Martinez, Inter’s star forward, had a series of chances to equalize, including a shot that hit the post late in the game. Federico Dimarco also came close to scoring from two free-kicks and had a close-range shot from a wide angle.

However, Fluminense’s defense held strong, and the Brazilian side sealed their win with a stunning goal in the 90th+3 minute. Substitute Hercules scored a curling edge-of-the-box shot that left Inter’s goalkeeper Yann Sommer with no chance.

The match was played in front of a crowd of 20,030 at the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, which has a capacity of 74,867.

Fluminense’s victory means they will join fellow Brazilian club Palmeiras in the quarterfinals. They will face the winner of Manchester City’s match against Al-Hilal in the Camping World Stadium in Orlando on Friday.

Inter Milan’s defeat marks a disappointing exit from the tournament for the Italian side. Despite topping their group with two wins and a draw, they were unable to overcome Fluminense’s resilient defense.

The match showcased Fluminense’s attacking flair and resilience, making them a formidable opponent in the quarterfinals.

Fluminense’s path to the quarterfinals has been impressive, with the team displaying a balanced performance in the group stage. They held Borussia Dortmund to a goalless draw, then impressed with a 4-2 win over Ulsan Hyundai.

Their creative heartbeat, Jhon Arias, has been instrumental in the team’s success, commanding the center of the pitch throughout the tournament.
