Inter record comeback win to seal Coppa Italia final spot

It was another historic night of comeback for Serie A leaders Inter Milan as they had to come back from a 2-0 deficit to defeat Cesc Fabregas Como in the semi-finals of the Coppa Italia.

The Nerazzurri have therefore recorded two comebacks within two weeks against Como, who are battling to qualify for Europe in the season they returned to the top flight.

Como had opened the goals chart in the first half through Martin Baturina.

They added the second two minutes into the second half through Lucas Da Cunha before Inter began their comeback with a Hakan Calhanoglu brace and Petar Sucic goal, to turn it around and reach the Coppa Italia Final.

The first leg at the Stadio Sinigaglia had ended goalless, leaving the return tie at San Siro all to play for.

Inter had fought back from a two-goal deficit when they met in Serie A on April 12 for a thrilling 4-3 victory.

Como went ahead when Ignace van der Brempt got down the right and pulled back for Baturina to sweep in first-time with the inside of the boot from eight yards, in off the far post.

Como doubled their advantage at the dawn of the second half as Nico Paz intercepted a Piotr Zielinski’s pass and sent Da Cunha down the right, where he threaded a precise left-foot finish into the far bottom corner.

Inter ten halved the deficit when Petar Sucic laid it off to the edge of the area for the Calhanoglu strike, which took a slight deflection on its way into the near bottom corner.

The Turkish international then completed his brace and the comeback from 2-0 down to 2-2 with a rare free header on the Sucic cross from 10 yards.

It was looking like the game was heading to extra time before  Sucic completed a give-and-go with Calhanoglu to bend the right-foot finish into the far bottom corner.

Como almost got an equaliser, but Manuel Akanji stopped Alvaro Morata getting a free header by nodding the cross into the arms of his goalkeeper.

Martinez again made a tough save on Maxence Caqueret at the near post, with Kempf’s header over on the corner.

Inter will now face either Atalanta or Lazio in the final of the competition scheduled for May 13.
