Cristiano Ronaldo left the Portugal national team camp last week amid reports of a disagreement with coach Jorge Jesus over his playing time.
Despite the high-profile departure, Jesus has made clear that the door remains open for the 41-year-old superstar to return for the November international break.
Portugal have continued their strong form since Ronaldo’s exit, securing victories in their next two matches.
Goncalo Ramos, who has stepped into a more prominent role up front, found the net in both games.
Those results have given the Selecao a perfect 12 points from their opening four UEFA Nations League fixtures, confirming their qualification for the next stage of the competition with games still to play.
Jesus, who previously worked with Ronaldo at Al-Nassr, addressed the situation after Portugal’s 2-1 win over Norway on Sunday.
He said he did not know what Cristiano would decide about a possible return. He added that he had already said what needed to be said, emphasizing that for him the episode had never been an issue.
Jesus said it was normal for a coach to manage a player who is such a prominent symbol for the national team.
While the coach has left the possibility of Ronaldo’s reinstatement open, he has indicated a preference for resolving the situation ahead of the next batch of fixtures.
Portugal’s recent results under Jesus have underlined the squad’s depth and momentum, highlighted by a late winner that secured the narrow victory against Norway.
The coming weeks will reveal whether Ronaldo chooses to rejoin the fold or whether Portugal continue without their long-serving talisman. For now, Jesus has kept the option available should the veteran forward wish to return.
