Nemanja Matic hits back at Roy Keane as he claims how football has evolved over the years

Serbian midfielder Nemanja Matic has joined AS Roma after his stint at Manchester United. However recently he has lashed out at United legend Roy Keane for not understanding how football has evolved over the years from his time.

The Serbian midfielder who has been reunited with manager Jose Mourinho in Serie A left England this summer after his contract ended with Manchester United. While moving to Serie A Matic shared how his former clubs Manchester United, Chelsea and Benfica are all in his heart.

His comments were quickly picked up by United legend Roy Keane who criticized Matic for his statement and questions him how he can have his heart placed in so many clubs.

‘Where’s the standards at the club?’ Keane asked at the time on Sky Sports. ‘Matic is talking about “I’m leaving, I’ve had a great time, Man United will always be in my heart, oh and Chelsea as well, oh and Benfica don’t forget them”, they all can’t be in your heart.”

Matic however now has come up with a response as he shared how Keane is still old school and he needs to understand that football has evolved over the years. He told Times, “I have respect for what he has done but he needs to understand that football has changed. If I played for Chelsea, I cannot say I hate them. I cannot be angry when I’m talking to the press after the game.”

He also shared how Kean’s over aggressive attitude won’t be suited in the Premier League today. The Serbian addressed how football has evolved and that kind of attitude will result in a straight red card for anyone playing in the Premier League.  ‘The way he behaved on pitch, 70 per cent of it is a red card today. You cannot throw a punch when all the cameras in the world are there.

Lastly he shared how Keane has been very nice to him and what he says on public is something that Matic does not care much. “’The real hero is when you go out on the street and say something, but he was always very nice with me, so what he says in public, to be honest, I don’t really care. I know what I’ve done in my career and I’m very happy,” he concluded.
