Manchester City beat 10-man Manchester United to maintain perfect start

Manchester City secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford, maintaining their 100% start to the Premier League season. 

Erling Haaland scored the decisive goal as Enzo Maresca’s side held on despite playing with 10 men for more than an hour.

City were reduced to 10 players in the 23rd minute when Phil Foden was shown a straight red card for kicking out at Bruno Fernandes. 

Despite the setback, City remained organized and frustrated United, who struggled to create clear opportunities before half-time.

Haaland eventually broke the deadlock in the 60th minute after VAR overturned an initial offside decision.

The Premier League Match Center confirmed that Haaland was onside, while Fernandes was deemed not to have played the ball despite being in an offside position.

United pushed for an equalizer as the match entered its final stages, but City’s defense continued to withstand the pressure. 

Bryan Mbeumo came close when he turned and fired inside the box, only for goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma to produce a crucial save.

Manchester United continued attacking but failed to break through, with Benjamin Sesko also unable to convert a late opportunity. 

City’s players and staff celebrated passionately at the final whistle after completing a remarkable victory with a numerical disadvantage.

The result gives Manchester City four consecutive league wins to begin the season, strengthening their early title credentials. 

United, meanwhile, are left with just four points from their opening four matches after suffering another disappointing result.

Meanwhile, Brighton & Hove Albion thrashed Coventry City 5-0 to condemn the newly promoted side to a fourth consecutive Premier League defeat. 

Charalampos Kostoulas opened the scoring in the 35th minute before Malick Yalcouyé doubled Brighton’s advantage shortly after half-time.

Coventry’s afternoon worsened when Taiwo Awoniyi was shown a straight red card for an elbow on Maxim de Cuyper in the 53rd minute. 

Pascal Groß converted a penalty in the 70th minute after Bobby Thomas brought down Kostoulas, while captain Lewis Dunk added a superb 20-yard strike 13 minutes later.

Yasin Ayari completed the rout in stoppage time as Brighton climbed to fourth in the table. 

Coventry remain bottom without a point or goal from their opening four matches, becoming only the second team in Premier League history to lose their first four games without scoring, after Crystal Palace in 2017-18.
