John Terry denies having anything to do with hiring Graham Potter

Despite spending a lot of money to rebuild the club and the arrival of Graham Potter, Chelsea continue to fight their way out of mid-table.

Potter was appointed as the new Chelsea boss in September following the sacking of Thomas Tuchel and prior to his hiring by the Blues, club legend John Terry had posted the following tweet:

How good is Graham Potter?

“I love how Brighton play and he has to be one of the best young managers around. He ticks every box for me.”

Due to the tweet many speculate that Terry influenced the selection of Potter. However, recently the former English defender said that he had nothing to do with it.

“I have nothing to do with the first team. I’m working with the [Under] 18s and 21s and love my role.”

For his part, Potter continues to work on building a team where trust and respect prevail.

“It’s about creating a team that competes, that has respect for each other, that is honest, that works together,” Potter told Chelsea’s official website.

“It’s a combination of, I would say, football and human values that we try to work with.

“I think that you have to understand that they’re human beings first, and the key thing is to try understand them, understand what motivates them and understand what they’re like as people.

“Then, from that, try to come to some common ground, try to build relationships, to try to communicate effectively on a daily basis and build.”
