Bayern Munich defeated Flamengo 4-2 in a thrilling match at the FIFA Club World Cup, securing their spot in the quarterfinals.
England captain Harry Kane scored his 40th and 41st goals of the season, breaking the 40-goal barrier in successive seasons for the first time. Kane’s impressive performance, including two goals in the match, showcased his exceptional skill and finishing ability.
The match began with Bayern Munich dominating the game, and they took the lead inside six minutes when Chilean midfielder Erick Pulgar diverted Joshua Kimmich’s corner into his own net.
Kane doubled the lead just three minutes later with a fierce low drive. Flamengo attempted to mount a comeback, with Gerson scoring a rasping strike 12 minutes before halftime. However, Leon Goretzka restored Bayern’s two-goal advantage with a long-range effort that wrong-footed goalkeeper Agustin Rossi.
In the second half, Flamengo’s hopes of a comeback were all but extinguished when Kane scored his second goal of the match, a composed finish from Kimmich’s pass. Jorginho had earlier pulled one back for Flamengo with a trademark penalty after Michael Olise handled Giorgian de Arrascaeta’s shot inside the box.
Bayern Munich’s victory marked a significant achievement, with the team scoring 154 goals in all competitions this season. Flamengo, despite their loss, continue to lead the Brazilian Serie A table and will resume their league campaign against Santos on July 17.
The standout player of the match was undoubtedly Harry Kane, whose clinical finishing and overall performance were crucial in securing Bayern’s win.
In the next round, Bayern Munich will face European champions Paris Saint-Germain in the quarterfinals on July 5 at 17:00 BST in Atlanta. The match promises to be an exciting encounter between two top-tier teams.
