Konsa and O’Reilly emerge as doubts for England’s Czech Republic clash

England defenders Ezri Konsa and Nico O’Reilly are doubts for Tuesday’s Nations League match against the Czech Republic after both missed training on Monday.

The pair were the only members of the squad to sit out the session, instead following individual programs ahead of the game.

Konsa and O’Reilly both played the full 90 minutes in England’s 3-2 defeat by Spain at Wembley on Saturday.

O’Reilly started at left-back, a position he established during England’s run to the 2026 World Cup semi-finals, while Konsa has become one of manager Thomas Tuchel’s trusted defenders.

O’Reilly’s potential absence could give Lewis Hall an opportunity to start at left-back. 

The Manchester City player was involved in Spain’s equalizer, with his mistake allowing Alex Baena to make it 2-2 before the World Cup winners eventually completed the comeback.

Konsa, meanwhile, started seven of England’s eight World Cup matches and has established himself as an important option at center-back. 

Should the Arsenal defender be ruled out, Jarrad Branthwaite could come into contention after replacing Marc Guehi late in the defeat by Spain.

England’s match against the Czech Republic is the second of four fixtures during the current international window. 

Tuchel’s side will face the Czech Republic twice, home and away, with an away meeting against Croatia in Rijeka between those games.

The Czech Republic match comes as England look to respond to their defeat by Spain, who recovered from 2-0 down to win at Wembley.

England’s players and coaching staff will now assess the fitness of Konsa and O’Reilly before deciding on their starting line-up for Tuesday’s Nations League encounter.

Meanwhile, England manager Thomas Tuchel has dismissed calls for player rotation during the international break, describing suggestions that some players should be rested as “madness.” 

With several players having had short breaks following the World Cup, there have been calls for Tuchel to manage their workload, but the England boss said he would not let players or clubs decide when they should feature.

Tuchel said England’s priority was to win against the Czech Republic and indicated that he expects several players to start again.
