Barcelona monitoring Estevao situation at Chelsea

Barcelona are reportedly monitoring Estevao’s situation at Chelsea after the Brazilian youngster became frustrated by his limited playing time under manager Xabi Alonso. 

The 19-year-old has made only a peripheral contribution in the Premier League this season, raising questions about his role at Stamford Bridge and prompting renewed interest from the Spanish club.

Estevao has played just 23 minutes across Chelsea’s first five Premier League matches of the campaign. 

His only starts have come in the EFL Cup, with the forward reportedly unhappy after expecting a bigger role following his first season adapting to English football.

According to reports, tensions have emerged between Estevao and Alonso over the player’s preferred position and tactical role. 

The Brazilian reportedly believes he can develop into a more central attacker after operating primarily from the right wing, but Cole Palmer currently occupies that position.

There are also reportedly differences over Estevao’s physical development, with the youngster reluctant to keep adding muscle because he fears it could affect his agility and pace. 

Despite the reported frustrations, however, Estevao is not currently pushing to leave Chelsea, while his representatives are not actively seeking a transfer.

While on international duty with Brazil in Australia, Estevao played down suggestions of a serious dispute with Alonso, saying he remains focused on working hard and taking advantage of opportunities when they arise. 

Alonso has also publicly backed the youngster, insisting there is a “100 percent chance” that Estevao will receive more opportunities because of his potential.

Barcelona are now keeping a close watch on developments at Stamford Bridge. 

The Catalan club monitored Estevao during his time at Palmeiras before Chelsea secured his signing in a €61.5 million deal, with Barcelona sporting director Deco having previously prioritized Lamine Yamal. 

Although an immediate move is not being pursued, the Spanish giants are reportedly paying attention to whether the Brazilian’s situation at Chelsea changes during the coming transfer windows.
