Leroy Sané’s contract dispute with Bayern Munich reached its conclusion on Wednesday. The German winger rejected the club’s revised contract offer, choosing instead to leave Bavaria this summer.
His decision marks the end of a significant chapter with the Bundesliga powerhouse, as he seeks new challenges elsewhere.
According to verified reports from Germany, Sané has agreed to a three-year contract with Turkish giants Galatasaray. The deal is highly lucrative, offering him approximately €15 million net annually, along with a substantial signing-on bonus.
This financial package, which Bayern did not match, highlights Galatasaray’s determination to secure the services of the talented 29-year-old winger.
Bayern had been in negotiations with Sané for nearly two months, coming close to a contract extension in late April. However, the dynamics shifted when Sané switched agents, enlisting Pini Zahavi to lead discussions. Zahavi’s involvement was aimed at securing a more favorable deal, as Sané sought better terms for his next career move.
In recent weeks, Bayern presented an improved offer with a higher fixed salary but fewer performance-based bonuses, keeping the total wages unchanged.
Despite constructive talks with Zahavi, Sané remained dissatisfied with the proposal. His frustration with Bayern’s terms ultimately led him to pursue opportunities outside Germany, culminating in his agreement with Galatasaray.
Sané is scheduled to travel to Turkey on Wednesday to complete his transfer. Sky Sports Germany reports that he will not represent Bayern in the upcoming Club World Cup, even though his current contract runs until the end of June. This move underscores his commitment to starting anew with the Turkish club.
Sané’s exit is a significant setback for Bayern, where he flourished under Vincent Kompany, delivering his most productive Bundesliga season to date. Kompany and the club were eager to retain him, but Sané had other plans.
With his departure, Bayern must now search for a replacement, and the coming weeks will likely see the club linked with several wingers to fill the void left by their second-most productive attacker this season.
