Barcelona forward Robert Lewandowski has revealed he is confident about winning the Ballon d’Or, which has eluded him for most of his career.
The Polish International came closest to winning Balon d’Or in 2020 and 2021 but could not win any after the organizers of the awards cancelled the 2020 edition due to covid-19 pandemic.
Lionel Messi won the 2021 edition despite the numbers pulled by Lewandowski with Bayern Munich.
However, the former Borussia Dortmund striker moved to Barcelona in the summer for the German champions and has hit the ground running.
Lewandowski has scored eight times in six La Liga goals this season, while he already has three in the UEFA Champions League. He’s stated that the reception he has gotten so far makes him feel comfortable at the Camp Nou and confident about winning the Balon D’Or as Messi did in Spain.
“I didn’t expect the Barca fans to start singing for me at the Camp Nou so quickly. It makes me feel like I’ve been here for a long time. Barcelona is the team where the most players have won the Ballon d’Or. I think the path is shorter from Barca than from Bayern.” Lewandowski said.
After leading Barcelona to a 3-0 victory against Elche in the La Liga at the weekend, Lewandowski will shift attention to the Polish national side as they prepare for the Qatar 2022 World Cup with two UEFA Nations League matches this week.
Meanwhile, Barcelona goes into the international break in second place on the La Liga table behind League leaders Real Madrid, who have a perfect 18 points from six games this season.
Barcelona are two points behind after playing five wins and a draw, with Robert Lewandowski scoring a brace against an Elche side that played more than 70 minutes with ten men.
