Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konaté is reportedly in advanced talks with Real Madrid over a move to the Spanish giants when his current contract expires at the end of June.
The France international is expected to leave Anfield as a free agent after failing to reach an agreement on a new deal with the Premier League champions.
The 27-year-old centre-back had been engaged in discussions with Liverpool regarding a contract extension, but negotiations ultimately broke down.
Reports suggest that differences over wages and the player’s valuation played a significant role in bringing talks to an end, paving the way for a potential move to the Santiago Bernabéu.
Liverpool officially confirmed on Sunday that Konate would depart the club at the conclusion of his current contract.
His exit marks the end of a successful five-year spell on Merseyside, during which he established himself as one of the club’s key defensive figures.
Since arriving from RB Leipzig in 2021 for a reported £35 million, Konate made 183 appearances across all competitions for the Reds.
During that period, he helped the club secure major honours, including a Premier League title, the FA Cup, and two League Cup trophies.
Should the deal be completed, Konate would become the latest Liverpool player to swap Anfield for Madrid.
His expected move follows the departure of Trent Alexander-Arnold, who also joined Real Madrid after leaving Liverpool on a free transfer the previous summer.
The Spanish club has increasingly targeted experienced players nearing the end of their contracts as part of its recruitment strategy.
