Liverpool piles misery on poor Leicester City

A Curtis Jones brace and a hattrick of assists from Mohammed Salah piled more problems for Leicester City, who now must win their remaining two games in the Premier League to stand a chance of survival after Monday’s 3-0 loss at home to Liverpool.

The Foxes have been on a wretched run of form which has seen them go fourteen games with a single win and only six points won in that period. Also, Monday’s loss at King Powers Stadium is their tenth loss this season.

Two first-half goals by Curtis Jones in the 33rd and 36th minutes gave him his second and third goals in his last four appearances for the Reds. Trent Alexander Arnold completed the scoreline with a 71st-minute strike that puts Liverpool in fifth with 65 points well within reach of a UEFA Champions League spot.

Leicester is they occupy second bottom and is two points away from safety as the two final matchdays loom in the Premier League.

Meanwhile, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp rated the win as a good win and an important one in the race for the top four.

“Good win, super important for us. We have two difficult games to come. Villa are fighting for Europe. Tonight I’m really happy. That’s the best free-kick routine we have. We should have scored three like that. Now we can take it directly or roll it both sides, so it makes it more likely we score from these situations. We have to use it more often. We changed so many things. Now we just have to play a different rhythm.” Klopp said

Liverpool’s next two games in the race for the UEFA Champions League space will see them face Aston Villa next and relegated Southampton on the final day of the Premier League. However, they have played one game more than Newcastle and Manchester United in third and fourth, respectively.
