Manchester City move up to second after 3–1 win over Bournemouth

Manchester City climbed to second place in the Premier League table with a 3–1 victory over AFC Bournemouth at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

Two first-half goals from Erling Haaland and a second-half strike from Nico O’Reilly sealed the win for Pep Guardiola’s side, who displayed their trademark dominance in possession and attacking fluidity.

Tyler Adams had briefly equalised for the visitors, but City proved too strong as they secured three vital points.

City began the match with intent, dictating tempo and exploiting spaces through midfield. The breakthrough came in the 17th minute when Rayan Cherki’s clever assist found Haaland, who calmly slotted home to open the scoring.

Bournemouth responded well and levelled through Adams’ well-timed header from a corner in the 25th minute. However, parity lasted only eight minutes as Haaland restored City’s lead with another composed finish, again set up by Cherki, to make it 2–1 by halftime.

After the restart, Bournemouth struggled to replicate their first-half intensity, as City tightened their grip on the game. In the 60th minute, Phil Foden teed up O’Reilly, who curled home a fine finish to extend the lead.

The goal marked the youngster’s growing importance under Guardiola, whose side maintained control despite several substitutions in the final stages.

Guardiola substituted Haaland in the 81st minute, denying him a chance at a hat-trick but keeping him fresh for the upcoming Champions League clash with Borussia Dortmund.

The City boss shared a warm embrace with his striker on the touchline, reflecting the harmony within the squad. Haaland’s brace took his league tally to 13 goals this season, equalling Les Ferdinand’s 1995–96 record for most goals in a club’s first ten Premier League matches.

Meanwhile, Arsenal top the Premier League table with 25 points, six points ahead of the Manchester City team in second place after beating Burnley 2-0 on Saturday.
