Manchester United Plan Fresh Lewis Hall Move in 2027 After Summer Setback

Manchester United are reportedly preparing to revive their interest in Newcastle United left-back Lewis Hall in 2027 as the club continues to look for a long-term solution on the left side of defence.

United failed to secure Hall this summer but have not dropped their interest in the 21-year-old. TEAMtalk claims the Red Devils intend to make another attempt to sign the Newcastle defender next year.

The development comes amid concerns over United’s current options at left-back. Luke Shaw, now 31, has struggled with the pace of play, while Michael Carrick’s team have appeared disjointed in several areas during the opening weeks of the Premier League campaign.

United suffered defeat against Hull City on the opening day before responding strongly with a 5-2 victory over Ipswich Town last weekend.

Hall, valued by Transfermarkt at just over £34m, appears to fit the profile United are seeking. The Newcastle full-back offers energy and athleticism, allowing him to repeatedly move up and down the flank and provide overlapping runs for players further forward.

His comfort in possession could also make him an attractive option for United, particularly against opponents who press aggressively. The Red Devils had also shown interest in Nathaniel Brown before his move to Bayern Munich, further highlighting their search for an athletic defender.

Adding more attacking quality from full-back could be important for Carrick’s team. United scored 69 Premier League goals last season, and Hall’s ability to contribute from wide positions could provide another route to creating chances.

The club’s recent transfer activity has largely concentrated on strengthening other areas. Carlos Baleba, Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos arrived to reinforce the midfield this summer.

A year earlier, United strengthened their attack with the signings of Bryan Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesko and Matheus Cunha. That recruitment could leave defence as a major priority when the club next makes significant additions.

Left-back may not be the only defensive position United look to address. Finding a replacement for central defender Harry Maguire could also become part of their plans, while questions remain over the reliability of Matthijs de Ligt and Lisandro Martinez.

With Hall still on their radar despite this summer’s unsuccessful pursuit, United appear ready to revisit the Newcastle defender as part of a wider defensive rebuild in 2027.
