Spurs share spoils with returning Foxes

Despite a dominant first-half display from Angel Postecoglu’s men, Tottenham Hotspur were unable to keep their lead and secure all three points in their first Premier League game of the season against Leicester City at the Kings Power stadium.

The fixture on Monday ended in a 1-1 draw as veteran striker Jamie Vardy led the Foxes to a 1-1 draw. The game was the first under Steve Cooper at the King Power Stadium. The 2016 Premier League winners are just returning from the championship after getting relegated in the 2022/2023 season.

Their first taste of life back at the top saw the need for a goal-line clearance and Wilfred Ndidi was able to do an acrobatic to deny the North Londoners in the initial indication of a long night ahead of the Foxes.

The Nigerian denied Rodrigo Bentancur, whose flicked header from a corner was destined for the net, only for Ndidi to lung forward to clear. Moments later, £65m summer signing Dominic Solanke should have done better to bag a debut goal, but his header at Mads Hermansen from six yards out was tame.

The visitors eventually got their goal, as former Leicester star James Maddison swung in a cross which helped home by Pedro Porro as the North Londoners went into the break with a deserved halftime lead.

37-year-old striker Vardy showed that he was a deserved starter with a good performance in the first half. He’s the only player from Leicester’s fairytale Premier League title and the memories of his phenomenal season in 2016 was on display for the fans as he snuck behind Spurs’ defence to head home the equaliser 15 minutes into the second period.

The striker was humble with his longevity after the game saying he will still be around as long as his body can manage.

“I see it as just a number. As long as I keep looking after myself and my legs keep feeling great, then I will carry on for as long as is physically possible.” Vardy said.
