Arsenal F.C. are on the verge of completing the signing of Bruno Guimarães from Newcastle United F.C. after both clubs reached a breakthrough in negotiations.
The Premier League champions are now finalizing the remaining details of the transfer, with the Brazilian midfielder expected to complete his move to the Emirates Stadium in the coming days.
Guimarães is reportedly awaiting permission to leave Newcastle’s pre-season training camp in La Manga, Spain, to undergo a medical and complete the formalities of the transfer.
While neither club has officially confirmed the financial details, the deal is believed to be worth up to £80 million, making it one of the biggest transfers of the summer window.
The 28-year-old has made it clear that he wants to join Arsenal, with manager Mikel Arteta identifying him as his priority target to strengthen the club’s midfield ahead of the new season.
Discussions between the two clubs have continued throughout the week, with only the final paperwork remaining before the move is officially announced.
Guimarães joined Newcastle from Olympique Lyonnais in January 2022 and quickly established himself as one of the club’s most influential players.
He was later named club captain and has become a key figure for both Newcastle and the Brazil national football team, earning 48 international appearances.
His expected arrival represents another major statement of intent from Arsenal as they continue to strengthen a squad that claimed the Premier League title last season.
Arteta has repeatedly stressed his desire to build on that success, and Guimarães’ experience, leadership, and all-round midfield qualities are expected to add further depth and quality to the team.
For Newcastle, the impending departure of their captain marks the end of a successful four-year spell during which Guimarães played a central role in the club’s resurgence.
Arsenal, meanwhile, are hopeful the Brazilian’s arrival will be completed before the start of the new campaign as they prepare to defend their league crown and challenge for major honours in both domestic and European competitions.
