Manchester United wins final home game of the season

Manchester United defeated Brentford 3-0 on Monday evening to end their home run for the season on a winning note. The Red Devils have played 36 games, with the remaining two games away at Brighton and Crystal Palace.

With Erik Ten Hag set to take over at the end of the season, it was a chance for Ralf Rangnick to end his Old Trafford journey on a winning note. Ralf Rangnick will now take on a consultancy role once Erik Ten Hag takes over permanently.

Manchester United had gone three matches without a win with two losses against Liverpool and Arsenal while being to a 1-1 draw by Chelsea.

Bruno Fernandes scored the opening goal with his tenth of the season. Ronaldo thought he had made it 2-0 on the stroke of halftime but was cancelled out by VAR.

Cristiano Ronaldo eventually got his goal on the hour after scoring from the penalty spot before Raphael Varane scored a third in the 72nd minute.

Ralf Rangnick spoke after the game stating that United’s last couple of results has been disappointing for him.

“In the end, I’m not happy with the results [overall], especially in the last four or five weeks. Until the West Ham game, we were still in the race in three competitions. We had good moments until that West Ham game. We conceded fewer goals, but in the last few weeks, performances have not been as good as they should have been. In general, we have lacked consistency.” Rangnick said.

Manchester City remains at the top of the table with one point above Liverpool in second. Chelsea are in third with three points above Arsenal in fourth. Spurs are in the top four race in fifth with two points behind Arsenal.

Manchester United are in sixth with 58 points, three behind Tottenham Hotspur.
