Marseille aim to push PSG to Ligue 1

Olympique de Marseille are aiming to push Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain to the league title as manager Roberto De Zerbi is not aiming to settle for a second spot in the league.

Milan enjoy success on their away trip to Angers SCO winning  2-0.

Les Phocéens are following the pace set by PSG after their 4-1 win against Monaco on Friday evening.

Ten points are separating them from PSG. This makes it increasingly difficult for Roberto De Zerbi’s men to try and disrupt the capital club’s homogenate grip on Ligue 1’s top spot.

De Zerbi, who is evidently satisfied by his side’s performance against SCO in his post-match press conference, still guards a certain hope that his side could endeavor to push Les Parisiens further this season.

Marseille have six points ahead of OGC Nice and AS Monaco in the race for the Champions League spots.

The Italian coach said he would prefer to “look ahead instead of behind.

Ligue 1 is entering the last 13 games of the season, and De Zerbi has ambitions to go higher.

“It can be frustrating and even humiliating. You may not achieve your goals, but that’s okay,” said De Zerbi to journalists at Stade Raymond Kopa. “If you want to be part of this club, you have to be ambitious, obsessed with looking ahead, with humility, but always with respect.”

“It’s something that will not necessarily come right away, but in my adventure, just like with Pablo Longoria, Medhi Benatia, but also players like Rulli, Rabiot, Højbjerg, Bennacer, and Kondogbia – I’m not here to finish second,” the former Brighton manager added.

With such a strong word from the Marseille boss, more should be expected from his team if they are to dislodge PSG from the Ligue 1 table and their monopoly as well.
