Mateta offered long-term Crystal Palace contract

Crystal Palace have stepped up efforts to secure the long-term future of striker Jean-Philippe Mateta by offering the French forward a new contract that would keep him at Selhurst Park until 2030. 

The move is aimed at protecting one of the club’s most influential players from a potential transfer or eventual free departure, with his current deal set to expire in June 2027.

The proposed extension comes as Palace seek to fend off growing interest in the 29-year-old, who has established himself as a key figure in the club’s attack. 

While no agreement has been reached, the offer places the decision firmly in Mateta’s hands as the Eagles look to avoid uncertainty surrounding his future in the coming transfer windows.

Mateta enjoyed another productive campaign, making 50 appearances in all competitions and scoring 16 goals. 

His most memorable contribution came in the UEFA Conference League final, where he netted the decisive goal against Rayo Vallecano to hand Crystal Palace their first European trophy. 

His performances followed previous success with the club, including FA Cup and Community Shield triumphs.

Speculation over the striker’s future intensified earlier this year after a proposed £30 million move to AC Milan collapsed on transfer deadline day due to concerns over a knee issue discovered during his medical. 

Despite remaining at Palace, reports linking him with a move away have persisted, prompting the club to act quickly in offering improved terms.

New manager Pierre Sage is understood to regard Mateta as a vital part of his long-term plans. 

Since arriving on loan from Mainz in January 2021, before completing a permanent transfer the following year, the French international has become one of Palace’s most reliable performers, registering 62 goals and 14 assists in 202 appearances across all competitions.

Mateta’s return to club duty has been delayed following his involvement with France at the FIFA World Cup.

The striker played limited minutes during Les Bleus’ run to the semi-finals but failed to score, and he remained an unused substitute in France’s 2-0 defeat to Spain. 

Palace will now hope contract talks progress once he returns to pre-season ahead of the new Premier League campaign.
