Mauricio Pochettino has said that he ‘wants to help’ Dele Alli turn his career around even though it’s been a while since he contacted the player who he coached when both of them were at Tottenham.
27-year-old Dele Ali has fallen off so badly that his loan move to Besiktas last season was ended abruptly by the Turkish club after Şenol Güneş took over as new head coach and stated that Alli was “below expectations in terms of efficiency,”
Alli continued to struggle at Besiktas and played his last game for Beşiktaş in February 2023, and had only two goals scored in 13 games playing for the team before he returned to Everton in April for an assessment of an injury he picked up.
Meanwhile, Mauricio Pochettino returned to England with Chelsea this month and has taken the opportunity to address one of the key players under him during his five-year stay at Tottenham.
“I hope to have some time to call and see how he is because he is a great guy, and I want to talk a little bit with him. I want to help him and see what is going on with him. He is still young. And for sure, he has the mentality. It’s a long time since I spoke to him, but I want to contact him again and see what is going on.” Pochettino said.
Dele Alli is still contracted to Everton, whom he joined in January 2022, and his contract doesn’t expire until the end of the 2023/24 season. He’s only played 13 games for the Toffees without a goal to show for it.
The midfielder is back with Everton, and he is hoping to impress Sean Dyche as the Merseyside club continues with the pre-season as the August 11 kick-off for the Premier League gets closer.
