Celtic midfielder Luke McCowan could be in line for a new contract following his impressive display in the club’s Scottish Cup semi-final triumph.
The 28-year-old made his mark by getting on the scoresheet as the team eventually secured a convincing victory against St Mirren.
This latest contribution caps off what has been another useful performance in a season where he has played a solid role within the squad.
Originally signed late in the summer 2024 transfer window, McCowan is now approaching the final year of his current contract.
As a result, discussions over a possible extension are now being planned by the club.
According to inside sources at Celtic, the club fully intends to sit down with the midfielder ahead of the next season in order to explore the options for a new deal.
However, those important talks will have to wait for the time being.
With the league title still very much up for grabs and an important Scottish Cup final still to come, the club is prioritizing all on-field matters before they turn their attention to any contract situations.
McCowan has not been a regular starter this season, managing just 11 league starts.
Nevertheless, he has proven to be a highly dependable option from off the bench, where he has featured on 17 separate occasions as a substitute.
Through these appearances, he has added much-needed depth and fresh energy to the side, while also contributing the occasional goal.
In the context of a long and demanding campaign, such contributions carry significant value for the team.
At this stage, it is not yet clear whether that will be enough to earn him an extended stay at the club.
But with those talks now penciled in for the near future, McCowan has given himself a strong chance to remain an integral part of Celtic’s plans well beyond the upcoming summer period.
This opportunity reflects the player’s dedication and the impact he has made when called upon during the course of the season.
