Norwich City opposes relegation from EPL if the Championship season is not concluded

The bottom side in the English Premier League, Norwich City, has voiced its standpoint on relegation from the Premier League Amidst several talks about “Project Restart” aimed at resumption of the league as soon as possible.

The Canaries who have played 29 games and has 21 points stated that the Premier League should scrap relegation for the top flight should its 2019-20 season be completed and the EFL championship doesn’t complete its season.

The Premier League has been aiming for a June restart with a plan called “Project Restart” with clubs meeting on Monday to continue discussions on the project, but talks on relegation have not been discussed.

Daniel Farke’s side are six points away from safety, and the club’s sporting director Stuart Webber has stated that the club will not accept is if, after playing the remaining games, gets relegated and the championship sides do not complete their schedule.

“What we could not accept is a situation where we play all our games and get relegated, but the Championship can’t play, and they automatically promote some teams who haven’t finished the season. For anyone who has got promoted from the Championship, it is a 46- or 49-game slog. It needs to be settled on the pitch – both coming up and going down.” Webber, as quoted on BBC.

While Norwich are rock bottom on the EPL log, Aston Villa and Bournemouth make up the three drop spots, although Watford in 17 is only better than Bournemouth in 18 on goals difference.

In the EFL Championship, Leeds United and West Brom are in the first and second positions while fulham, Brentford, Nottingham forest, and Preston north end all occupy the four playoffs spots.

Furthermore, the EPL and the Championship both have nine rounds left to be played, but the outcome of a conference between EFL and championship clubs on Wednesday will determine how the season will end.
