PSG held by resolute Benfica

Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain has been held to another draw in the Champions League.

This makes it three straight draws for the Paris club. PSG had drawn in Lisboa and were also held to a goalless draw over the weekend in the league.

The first chance came the way of Benfica. Rafa right footed shot from the right side of the box is too high from the pass released by Fredrik Aursnes.

Their attempt to open the scoring chat was later blocked when Gonçalo Ramos’ right-footed shot from the right side of the six-yard box got blocked. 

PSG got their first chance through Neymar. The Brazilian right-footed shot from outside the box, but it was blocked.

It was the turn of the hosts to attack. Pablo Sarabia left foot was from the right side of the box was saved in the centre of the goal. 

PSG eventually got the goal through a penalty. Juan Bernat drew a foul in the penalty area to get the French giant the needed three points.

Kylian Mbappé made no mistake by converting the penalty with a right-footed shot to the bottom left corner.

They continue to attack in search of the second. After receiving a pass from Neymar, Mbappé’s left-footed shot from the left side of the box was saved in the bottom left corner. Assisted by Neymar.

In search for an equalizer, Alejandro Grimaldo’s left-footed shot from a difficult angle and long range on the left was close but missed the target.

As it became an end-to-end attacking game, Mbappé’s right-footed shot from the centre of the box was off target.

After knocking at the door for the equalizer, Benfica eventually scored. 

They got a lifeline when Marco Verratti computer a foul in the penalty area.

Jao Mario sent the goalie the wrong way to confidently score the goal.

PSG and Benfica are level on points in the group with 8 points. Meanwhile, Juventus suffered a shock 2-0 defeat to Maccabi Haifa, which puts their qualification hopes in jeopardy.
