Real Madrid closely tracking Rodri’s situation amid future uncertainty

Real Madrid are reportedly maintaining a close watch on the situation surrounding Manchester City midfielder Rodri, as they consider long-term options for strengthening their midfield.

The Spanish international is said to be high on Los Blancos’ radar, particularly in light of their search for a successor to retired veteran Toni Kroos.

Rodri remains a name of interest to the Madrid hierarchy despite a recent setback. The 29-year-old is currently recovering from a long-term anterior cruciate ligament injury that sidelined him for several months, but he has recently returned to full fitness and is expected to play a key role in City’s upcoming campaign.

Real Madrid’s initial pursuit of Rodri was reportedly put on hold due to the severity of his injury, which cast some doubt over his immediate availability and performance level.

Nevertheless, club president Florentino Pérez and his team have not lost interest, with the midfielder still considered a prime candidate to bring balance and quality to their midfield setup in the near future.

One of the key factors influencing Real Madrid’s continued interest is the status of Rodri’s contract. The midfielder’s current deal with Manchester City runs until the summer of 2027, giving the Premier League champions a strong negotiating position.

However, if Rodri does not reach an agreement on an extension over the coming season, Madrid may feel emboldened to test City’s resolve.

The Spanish capital club is believed to be monitoring not just Rodri’s contract situation, but also his form and fitness throughout the 2025/26 season.

Should the midfielder return to his top level and remain injury-free, Madrid may well launch a formal approach next summer as they look to bolster their already impressive squad with proven quality.

Rodri, who previously played for Villarreal and Atlético Madrid, has established himself as one of the world’s most consistent holding midfielders in recent seasons.

A potential move back to La Liga, especially to a club of Real Madrid’s stature, would mark a significant moment in his career and could reshape the balance of midfield power in Spanish football.
