Real Madrid draw goalless at home to Cadiz

Real Madrid’s seven-match winning streak came to an end on Sunday evening when they drew 0-0 with Cadiz at the Santiago Bernabeu in the La Liga.

The game saw Carlo Ancelotti field Vinicius Jnr, who was making his 100 Real Madrid appearance, alongside Karim Benzema, who celebrated his 34th birthday today, and former Chelsea striker Eden Hazard who was making his first start in the La Liga since September.

Despite all the firepower, Real Madrid couldn’t find the back of the net even with their 36 shots attempted. Nevertheless, the Los Blancos still sit pretty at the top of the La Liga table with six points between them and second-placed Sevilla even though they played more games than the UEFA Europa League specialists.

Meanwhile, Barcelona had to fight their way to a 3-2 victory over Elche on Saturday. The win is the team’s first in five matches in all competitions.

Xavi’s side went into a two-goal lead early in the game, but Elche managed to crawl their way back into reckoning in the game.

Jutglà in the 16th minute, and Paez Gaviria 19th minute, placed Barcelona on course for three points until Morente Oliva and Milla scored two quickfire goals in the 62nd and 63rd minutes to drag Elche into the game.

However, González Iglesias scored in the 85th minute to ensure a win for Barcelona, their first in over three weeks.

Meanwhile, Athletic Club beat Real Betis 3-2 while Granada were 4-1 winners over Mallorca and Getafe pipped Osasuna 1-0, all on Sunday.

Villarreal picked up an emphatic 3-1 victory over Real Sociedad while Sevilla beat Atletico Madrid 2-1 and Rayo Vallecano beat Alaves 2-0.

On Monday night, Levante will welcome Valencia, while Barcelona will execute some of their outstanding games when they face Sevilla on Tuesday while Villarreal will host Alaves on the same day.
