Robert Lewandowski wins the 2020-21 season Golden Shoe and pledges future to Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich star striker Robert Lewandowski has revealed how he does not need to play in another league to prove himself after he won the 2020-21 European Golden Shoe.

Lewandowski is one of the finest strikers of this generation to grace the beautiful game. He made his name at Borussia Dortmund before leaving for Bayern Munich in 2014. He has made a name for himself at the Allianz Arena. The 2020-21 season was the best for the Polish marksman.

He scored 41 goals in 29 Bundesliga matches and broke Gerd Muller’s iconic record despite missing out on a month’s action due to injury. He even won the European Golden Shoe after he scored 11 more goals than former FC Barcelona star Lionel Messi.

While receiving the Golden Shoe, Lewandowski took this opportunity to thank his teammates, family and friends. He also reiterated his commitment to Bayern Munich. Lewandowski was heavily linked with a move away from the Bundesliga this summer. There were talks of how stepping out of his comfort zone in the Bundesliga and joining race leaders Chelsea would help him grow as a player.

“I don’t have to prove myself in another league,” said Lewandowski. “I can compete with the best from other leagues in the Champions League.

“I am 100 percent focused on Bayern Munich, I don’t think about anything else but my team.”

There were reports suggesting that Bayern were looking at options to replace Lewandowski in the near future. The options had Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland and Chelsea’s Timo Werner. However, the Poland international insisted that he has several years left with the German record champions.

“I am still here – and I will be here for a long time!” said Lewandowski. “Age, these are just numbers. I feel very good, I have the best stats I’ve ever had. I know that with my body I can play at the top level for years to come. I’m like a good wine and I hope to get even better.”

Lewandowski has been in terrific form for Bayern under Julian Nagelsmann. The Pole is leading the Bundesliga charts with seven goals. He also scored a brilliant brace against FC Barcelona in their Champions League opener.
