Rodgers reflects on draw in Belgrade as Hibernian test awaits

Brendan Rodgers believes that his side gained a good point on their opening Europa League game, with the Hoops drawing 1-1 against Crvena Zvezda in Belgrade.

At the same time, there was a sense that the team could have gone on to win the match, given that they took the lead early in the second half.

It was Kelechi Iheanacho, on as a substitute at the start of the second-half for Daizen Maeda, who opened the scoring in the 56th minute with a superb finish.

Speaking after the game, Brendan Rodgers stated that it was a good start for the team, noting that while they aim to win every match, securing a point at that venue was positive, though they were disappointed not to have won.

He mentioned that this result was something they could build on for their next game against Braga the following week.

Rodgers also revealed that in the first half, the team was too passive, and when they did advance into the game, they failed to maintain possession long enough in the final third of the field.

And he caused problems for the Serbian side throughout the remainder of the game. His contribution pleased his manager, who also praised the performance of 19-year-old Colby Donovan.

Celtic return to domestic action this weekend as they welcome Hibs to Parkhead in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday

Rodgers’ side have only dropped points in the Scottish Premiership in a 0-0 draw with Old Firm rivals Rangers, leaving them top of the league, while they have also booked their place in the Scottish League Cup semi-finals.

Looking to maintain their formidable start to the league campaign, Celtic will host Hibernian at Celtic Park, with their opponents also aiming to extend their undefeated start to the Scottish Premiership season.
