Rosenior confident in Chelsea board’s backing

Chelsea head coach Liam Rosenior has insisted he retains the full backing of the club’s ownership despite a troubling run of four consecutive league defeats without scoring. 

Speaking after the latest setback, the 41-year-old emphasized that support from the hierarchy remains strong as pressure builds over results.

Rosenior, who took over following the departure of Enzo Maresca on New Year’s Day, now finds his side seven points adrift of fifth-placed Liverpool after a home loss to Manchester United. 

That gap has significantly dented Chelsea’s hopes of securing UEFA Champions League qualification, which had been set as the club’s minimum objective for the season.

Despite the mounting pressure, Rosenior was clear about the internal support he continues to receive. 

He highlighted the role of the club’s sporting directors and ownership group, describing their backing as “magnificent” in daily conversations. 

However, he acknowledged that performances must improve quickly, stressing that results on the pitch remain the ultimate measure of progress.

Co-owner Behdad Eghbali recently reaffirmed the club’s long-term faith in Rosenior, even while admitting the importance of results. 

Eghbali also hinted at a shift in recruitment strategy, suggesting Chelsea could pursue more experienced players in the summer and adjust their current approach after assembling the youngest squad in the Premier League.

Off the pitch, Rosenior addressed a viral incident involving defender Wesley Fofana, who appeared to ignore a member of the coaching staff during the defeat. 

The manager confirmed the player had apologised and described the situation as a moment of frustration rather than a deeper issue, adding that it would not impact team selection.

Looking ahead, Chelsea face further challenges with injuries affecting key players. 

Estevao Willian has been ruled out with a hamstring problem, while Joao Pedro remains a doubt pending a late fitness test. 

Defender Levi Colwill is also not yet ready to return, though he continues his recovery with the club’s development squad.
