Sarr explains his reasons for moving to Juventus from Spurs

Pape Matar Sarr has said that Paul Pogba, the former Juventus star, is his role model at the club since Pogba returned from his loan at Tottenham Hotspur.

The midfielder, eager to settle in at Juventus as fast as he can, made that clear in his first interview with the club.

Sarr, who completed his loan move from Tottenham on deadline day, said his first impression of Juventus is that it’s a massive club with a great history that comes with legends like Zidane, Paulo Pogba, and Platini. That means a lot to him, and he’s thrilled to be joining the project under Luciano Spalletti.

Sarr looked like Juve’s backup option to Franck Kessié. They couldn’t agree terms with the Ivory Coast international, who was available on a free transfer, so they went with Sarr instead.

The midfielder also described his game as one where he likes to move up and down the field.

“I can score goals, shape the team’s game, and hold defensively. I’m always trying to keep the team protected and help them play their best. That’s basically how I play.

“I want to get used to how the team plays, because Juventus are a top club. It’s a club with a rich history and the most successful in Italy,” the Tottenham loanee added.

Sarr joined the club on a one-season €2.5m loan deal. Bianconeri have the right to buy for €27.5m, spread out over three years.

The 23-year-old Senegalese international netted 11 goals in 141 appearances for Tottenham across all competitions.

He’s joining forces with Nick Woltemade, who also left Newcastle on deadline day, also on loan.

Juventus have won their first two games of Serie A this season.

We’ll see how the new arrival settles in and contributes to the squad.
