Enzo Fernandez tops 20 most expensive transfers of summer 2026

Premier League clubs have set a new summer spending record after investing around £3.5 billion in transfers, with several high-profile deals involving some of the biggest names in world football. 

According to figures based on initial transfer fees, Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez’s move to Manchester City tops the list at £125 million, equalling the British transfer record.

Fernandez’s transfer on deadline day made the Argentina international the Premier League’s most expensive signing of the summer and placed him among the five most expensive players in football history. 

The 25-year-old leaves Chelsea for Manchester City after becoming a key figure at Stamford Bridge, with his arrival expected to strengthen Pep Guardiola’s midfield following the departures of Rodri and Tijjani Reijnders.

Chelsea are also heavily represented among the summer’s biggest deals, with Morgan Rogers joining the club from Aston Villa for £117 million. 

The England attacking midfielder, 23, agreed a six-year contract and arrives after contributing 10 goals and six assists in 37 league appearances last season. 

Manchester City also paid £116 million for Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson, who had featured in all 38 Premier League matches before his move.

Real Madrid’s £115.7 million deal for 19-year-old Yan Diomande ranks fourth, with the Ivory Coast winger arriving from RB Leipzig after an impressive Bundesliga campaign and World Cup. 

Liverpool’s acquisition of Bradley Barcola from Paris St-Germain follows at £106 million, although the overall package could reach £123 million. 

Tottenham also feature prominently, spending £92.5 million on Sandro Tonali and £85 million on Mateus Fernandes.

Further down the list, Manchester United paid £70 million for Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba, while Arsenal signed Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle for £75 million. 

Other notable moves include Rodri’s £65 million transfer from Manchester City to Barcelona, Anthony Gordon’s £69.3 million switch from Newcastle to Barcelona and Goncalo Ramos’ £60.2 million move from PSG to AC Milan.

The spending underlines the scale of activity during the 2026 summer window, with Premier League clubs responsible for several of the biggest deals. 

Manchester City alone completed major moves for Fernandez, Anderson and Bouaddi. At the same time, Tottenham and Chelsea also made significant investments as clubs around Europe and Saudi Arabia reshaped their squads ahead of the new season.
