Spain boss praises Yamal’s quality

Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente has lavished praise on teenage sensation Lamine Yamal, describing the Barcelona winger as a player “touched by magic.”

The 18-year-old continues to rise as one of the brightest prospects in world football, with his national team manager highlighting both his talent and maturity.

De la Fuente emphasised that Yamal is not only gifted on the pitch but also a role model off it.

He described the youngster as respectful, well-rounded, and highly disciplined, qualities that set him apart from many players his age.

According to the Spanish boss, such traits make Yamal an example for aspiring footballers around the globe.

De la Fuente also revealed that the Royal Spanish Football Federation worked extensively to secure Yamal’s international allegiance.

The Barcelona academy graduate had been eligible to represent multiple countries, but Spain ensured he committed his future to La Roja, seeing him as a cornerstone of the national team’s long-term project.

The Spain manager also addressed the emotional impact of Gavi’s injury struggles.

He admitted that the midfielder’s absence has been deeply felt within the squad, likening the situation to a personal loss.

De la Fuente noted that the entire team shared the pain of seeing one of their most beloved players sidelined for an extended period.

On a more positive note, De la Fuente offered an encouraging update on Rodri, who has been recovering from fitness issues.

The coach expressed confidence in the Manchester City midfielder’s progress, stating that he is returning to full form and remains one of the best players in the world alongside Martín Zubimendi.

Looking ahead, Spain have firmly set their sights on the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup.

With a European Championship already secured, De la Fuente believes his squad is motivated to achieve even greater success on the global stage.

Drawn in a competitive group that includes Uruguay, Saudi Arabia, and Cape Verde, Spain will head into the tournament as one of the favourites, with Yamal expected to play a leading role.
