Spain booked their place in the final of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after a commanding 2-0 victory over France in Tuesday’s semi-final at Dallas Stadium.
First-half penalty from Mikel Oyarzabal and a second-half strike by Pedro Porro sealed a deserved win for Luis de la Fuente’s side, who outclassed the tournament favourites to set up a final against either England or Argentina.
The Spaniards took control of the contest from the opening whistle and were rewarded in the 22nd minute when Oyarzabal calmly converted from the penalty spot after Lamine Yamal was brought down inside the box by Lucas Digne.
Spain continued to dominate possession and midfield, denying France the opportunity to settle into their attacking rhythm before taking a deserved one-goal lead into the halftime break.
Spain doubled their advantage in the 58th minute through Pedro Porro, who finished clinically after an excellent assist from Dani Olmo.
Olmo was outstanding throughout the encounter, completing 29 of his 30 passes for an impressive 96.7 percent accuracy while creating two chances and orchestrating Spain’s attacking play from midfield.
France struggled to respond despite boasting attacking stars such as Kylian Mbappe and Ousmane Dembele.
Mbappe endured a frustrating evening, missing opportunities and receiving a late yellow card after a collision with Spain goalkeeper Unai Simon, who produced another commanding performance between the posts.
Spain’s disciplined defence, marshalled by Marc Cucurella and company, ensured the French attack rarely threatened.
The victory highlighted Spain’s dominance in midfield, with Rodri delivering another influential display by breaking up France’s attacks and dictating the tempo.
Spain will now prepare for their second FIFA World Cup final, where they will face the winner of the other semi-final between England and Argentina.
After beginning their tournament with a goalless draw against Cape Verde, the Spaniards have steadily grown into the competition and are now one victory away from lifting the World Cup trophy once again.
